In what way does your media use, develop, or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Camerawork
My media piece develops the forms and conventions of real media products through the use of Camerawork. One way this is done is by using a range of different camera angles. For example, one of our first shots is a tracking shot. This shows that our main character is just a normal, everyday student. This is further backed up towards the end of our media piece as when our protagonist reaches his destination (the school), the camera pans round and shows the school which reveals much more of the character to the audience. We have also taken inspiration from 'Ferris Beuler's Day Off' as in the opening of that movie, it focuses only the main character. This is the same for our opening sequence.

Editing
We used similar editing techniques found in film openings, for example, we have used brightness adjustments, fades (with both the titles and the music) and non-diegetic background music. All of these symbolise that our main character is just your average student on his way to school. The music also backs this statement up as the majority of students listen to music on their way to school, this is obvious as the protagonist has his headphones in and at certain points we can see him singing along the music in the background. The fact that the music is very up beat but calms down at different points is symbolic of how our character is feeling during our opening - he is happy because he is looking forward to meeting new people, but he is also nervous at the same time because he is starting a new school and doesnt know what the expect.

Mise-en-Scene
The use of Mise en Scene is also very important in the way it develops the forms and conventions of real media products. Our use of costumes is very significant in portraying our character as he is wearing very stereotypical student clothing (like a bag, a shirt and trousers for example) which immediately shows the audience that he is a student. Furthermore, the fact that at the end of our opening sequence, the camera pans round to reveal the school which also shows that our character is a student. Finally, our titles emphasise that he is a student because as the title of our opening comes up, it is shown on a sticky note on a piece of work showing that he is still at school. This develops the conventions of a real media product as it clearly shows that he is a student which fits into our genre of coming of age.
