Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

During this process i have learnt many things, for example i have learnt many ways to edit videos in programmes such as Adobe Premiere Pro. This has made me feel much more confident when editing videos as before I didn't really know how to edit very well but now I feel I have improved my abilities in Premiere as a result of creating this product. I have also learnt ways to successfully film a scene using a camera and a tripod for a stable shot.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

The main thing i have learnt whilst constructing this product is that technology doesn't always do what you want it to. An example of this is when we were filming for our first cut of our opening sequence, The camera was very shaky and it sometimes didn't record for the whole time, so we had to adapt to this and record each scene twice and choose the best one to use. We also sometimes had to record in 10 second fragments and then edit them later and put them together smoothly so it looked like one clean shot. Another thing that didn't go to plan whilst creating our media product was during the editing of our product in Adobe Premier Pro. Sometimes when we tried to render our video it wouldn't render properly and some of our opening sequence would be without sound, but eventually we got it working and were able to produce an opening sequence of good quality. Another thing i learnt was that you can't just use any music you want in a video that you are going to upload to the Internet as most of it is copyrighted. So we decided to use a cover of the song we found online as this wasn't copyrighted.

How did you attract and address your audience?

As i stated before, we aimed our media product at an international audience in the age range 13-18. We attracted our audience by using many different eye catching titles, and especially our intro screen as we used the 'Universal Studios' introduction which we though would fit as this was one of the big six companies we thought would distribute our product. Furthermore, we also used titles such as  'starring Denzel Washington'. He is a well known actor so we thought we would put him in because people are more likely to go see movies with big, well known actors in them as they sort of know what to expect from them and the sort of role they might play. We also attracted our teenage audience by dressing our main character in 'relatable' clothing like a hoodie, a school bag and plain black jeans. We decided to dress him in these clothes because we thought that our target audience of teenagers could relate to this as these are the sort of clothes that they wear each day.

Our theme also attracts our tenage audience as we decided to base our media product on school and joining sixth for at the same school or whether to join at another school. We decided to make him start a new school, this enabled us to create a voiceover with our main character speaking and revealing details whilst he walks to school.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

Our media product is aimed at a wide, international audience, hence why we chose it would be distributed by one of the big six companies as they have the most influence and the largest audiences. However, as stated earlier in my blog, we feel that it would most appeal to people around our age like teenagers and young adults because we feel like they could relate the most to our product. We feel this way because the genre of our media product (which is coming of age) is very popular with this age range and the majority of teenagers enjoy watching this genre of film. The result of this means that the distributors would be able to benefit massively and make big profits as this genre is more often than not very popular with teenagers.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Our media product would be distributed by one of the big six companies as in our opening sequence we used the 'Universal Studios' intro to show that they distribute our film and we created a company called 'Looper films' to use as our producer.

We chose Universal as our film is targeted at a mass audience, however we feel it would most appeal to teenagers as it is a coming of age film. Hollywood production companies have the ability to create big budget films as they can afford to keep making films even when they have a film that 'flops', which often gross hundreds of millions of dollars. Much more than an Independent British Film company, such as Warp or Working Title.  Universal have the ability as they do this frequently, creating highly successful films. They have had success producing coming of age films, such as The Breakfast Club (1985) and Sixteen Candles (1984), and as our film falls into the Coming of Age genre, we felt they would be a suitable company, and probably the best option.

How does your media product present particular social groups?

Our opening sequence consists of one main character - Who is a student. We have chosen to put him in stereotypical high school student clothes (hoodie, shirt, bag, black jeans/trousers and trainers) as this makes it clear to the audience that he is a student and immediately gives the audience a hint to his age and the sort of person he is. We also chose to revolve our opening sequence around him and his journey to school as we thought that this would be very effective in representing his 'social class' and making it clear to the audience that he is a student.

We tried to make it as obvious as possible that our protagonist is a usual teenager at sixth form that follows the majority of the conventions. The clothes we put him in are very closely associated to that of a 'normal' teenager these days and it also allows us to portray that he is a sixth former very easily. Furthermore, the fact that our main character doesn't speak throughout the entire opening sequence, apart from when you hear his voice through a voiceover, could suggest that he is very nervous as he is starting a new school and doesnt want to make a bad impression or say the wrong thing. This also develops the stereotypical 'new boy' at school as they always seem to be really shy and quite.
